The Irrigation Department states that the water levels of the main four rivers, Kelani, Kalu, Ging and Nil-valaa are gradually receding at this time.

However, floods caused due to the overflowing of the Nilvalaa River in Panadugama and Urava have not receded as of yet.

Meanwhile, disrupted electricity supply due to the severeweather has been restored.

The Ceylon electricity board stated that its technicians are finding it difficult to restore supply to some parts of Ratnapura district.

CEB Media Spokesman Sulakshana Jayawardana further described the situation to our news team.

Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Center Pradeep Kodippili requested that those affected by flooding currently being sheltered at makeshift camps not to return to their residences until further notice.

Meanwhile, a specialist attached to the Contagious Disease Unit, Dr. Samitha Genige stated that there is a possibility of infectious diseases spreading as a result of flooding.

He has issued a list of precautionary measures that should be taken,  especially in consuming food and water .
