Disaster death toll rises to 180 ; Over 580 thousand affected

As a consequence of the severe weather, the death toll has risen to 180.

The latest communiqué issued by the Disaster Management Centre states that 109 persons have been injured, whilst 110 persons have been reported missing.

At this stage, the highest number of deaths being 77, was been reported from Ratnapura district

54 persons died in the Kalutara district and 21 deaths were reported in Matara.

Meanwhile, 588 thousand 82 persons have been affected by the extreme weather.

484 houses have been destroyed, and 5,227 houses have been damaged.

The Disaster Management Centre further stated in its communiqué that 74 thousand 928 persons have been sheltered in 336 makeshift camps following floods and landslides.
