The Irrigation Department says that although the water levels of Kelani, Kalu, Ging and Nil-walaa rivers are receding, low lying areas are still experiencing flooding.

Similarly reports stated that Paana-dugama, Uuraa-va and Pitabaddara are still flooded.

Meanwhile  the Irrigation Department protective  bunds of rivers are no longer at risk.

Earlier it had been reported that that there was threat of  the bund, that was constructed to prevent water from ging river from overflowing and entering baddegama, would burst.

However this is no longer a concern, as the Irrigation Department said the bund had been reinforced by making a sand bag bund to stopp water leaking from the original protective bund.

The Additional Director General of the  Irrigation Department T. P. Alwis said that although it had been reported that  there was a threat of the embankment of  Bolgoda River in Panaapitiya in Kalutara bursting,  there was now no issue to report.

Meanwhile due to a threat of a land slides off Pothgul Hill in Ratnapura, about 20 families were evacuated last night.

The director of the National Building Research Institute’s Land Slide Division R. M. S. Bandaara told our news team that the area had been declared a risk zone.
