The area between Dodangoda and Gelanigama of the Southern Expressway which was closed down due to flooding was reopened yesterday. 

Accordingly, our correspondents noted that travel along Kadawatha to Kokmaaduwa is possible.

The Godagama entrance continues to be closed off due to flooding at the Nil-wala entrance.

The Pasgoda Divisional Secretary, noted that 112 families were directed to safe shelters due to a potential landslide hazard on Matara- Pasgoda- Rotumba kanda.

She added that 45 of them have been relocated to Panaakaduwa Junior School.

The ministry of Urban Planning and Water Resources has launched a programme to repair wells and toilets in flood-hit areas.

Issuing a communiqué the Ministry said that a group comprising of 400 personnel from the National Water Supply Department have been deployed for this purpose.

Meanwhile a special Health Services Unit has been set up for providing medical services for the disaster victims.

The Health Ministry says the Unit coordinates 8 disaster hit districts with two deputy directors generals appointed for this purpose.
