Due to risk of landslides in Kaluthara – Bulathsinhala – Thibottaawa mountain 22 families were evacuated last night.

Meanwhile the monks from Pahiyangala Temple have been evacuated following a warning from the National Building Research Organization stating that that area is at risk of landslides hazards.

The death toll from inclement weather over the past few weeks has now risen to 212 while another 79 are still reported to be missing.

More than 700,000 are reported to have been affected by the inclement weather.

2,316 houses have been completely damaged while 12,515 houses have been partially damaged.

The Disaster Management Center noted that 24,820 persons are being sheltered at 226 makeshift camps.
