President Maithripala Sirisena reiterated today that lifeboats should be stationed at District Secretariats, DIG offices and SSP offices to be used in emergency situations.

Addressing a meeting held today at the District Secretariat of Matara, President Sirisena said the Building Research Organization should inspect the lands before new houses are build for the displaced families.

When the president questioned the Matara District Secretary Pradeep Rathnayake about how many lifeboats are available at the Secretariat, minister Lakshman Yapa also intervened to reply.

Joint Opposition MPs Dallas Alahapperuma, Niroshan Premarathna and JVP MP Sunil Handunnetti were also present at this meeting.

Addressing the meeting, MP Alahapperuma said that the 3rd phase of the Nilvala River project should be implemented soon to control floods.

After Minister Mangala Samaraweera expressed his views, UNP provincial councilor Chandana Priyantha complained that minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardana has dominated the monitoring of development activities in Kamburupitiya electorate.
