Sale of variety of rice due to be sold through the CWE which caused much uproar has by now been withheld.

Similarly the Industrial Technical Institute has also commenced an investigation regarding the relevant rice variety.

Earlier we revealed that a serious suspicion had arisen among the people regarding a variety of rice due to be sold at CWE shops.

This category of Baasmathi rice imported to the country from Pakistan was due to be sold at CWE outlets at Rs. 148 per kilogramme.

However consumers charged that the rice variety concerned becomes unusually sticky after cooking.

However Industrial Technical Institute Additional Director General Ananda Pannila said that a special investigation beyond the usual procedure was being held regarding the relevant variety of rice.

Meanwhile CWE Chairman T. M. D. K. Tennakoon also calling a media briefing yesterday said that if it was proved that there was a problem with regard to the said variety of rice, compensation would be levied from the company importing the relevant strain of rice.

Similarly Essential Food Importers’ and Traders’ Union media spokesman Hemaka Fernando told our news team that a special investigation should be held regarding this stock of rice.

Similarly he queried the relevant authorities regarding the said variety of rice being wrapped with a polythene cover.
