The Central Bank of Sri Lanka stated that it has not informed local commercial banks not to accept Qatar Riyal.

Central Bank, in a communiqué stated today that certain reports that say the Central Bank has issued such a report are false.

Passengers who returned to the island from Qatar were inconvenienced as exchange of Qatar Riyal was suspended this morning.

However, our correspondent stated that commercial banks inside the Airport are exchanging Qatar Riyal in limited quantities.

6 Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirate cut diplomatic ties with Qatar yesterday.

Several Gulf based airlines including Emirates and Etihad stopped flights to Doha soon after the countries cut off diplomatic ties with Doha.

However media spokesman of Sri Lankan Airline Deepal Perera said the national career is making its flights to Doha as usual.

There are over 125 thousand Sri Lanka expatriates in Qatar.

Deepal Perera told our news team that all daily flights to and from are operated according to the usual time table.

Indian airlines including Jet Airways and Indigo also continue their flights as usual.
