Rain forecast for the South tomorrow, Drought in the North to continue till October

The Met Department stated that the existing drought in the Northern Province will continue for several months.

The Department also stated that the province will not receive sufficient rain until October or November.

Meanwhile, the department forecasts possible increase of rain in the South Western areas of the island tomorrow.

Director of the forecast Unit Athula Karunanayake said that intermittent rain could be experienced in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North Western provinces.

Meanwhile, landslide warning issued earlier on 7 districts has been extended further for the next 24 hours.

Accordingly, the earth slips warning would continue came into effect from 2 pm today for the districts of Ratnapura, Kegalle, Galle, Kalutara, Matara, Hambantota and Nuwara Eliya.

Meanwhile, number of persons affected by the weather disaster has declined to 595 thousand 557.

213 persons died and 79 are still missing following the inclement weather that experienced in the island last week.
