The Joint Opposition has condemned minister John amaratunga’s abusive language towards a hiru journalist Benet Ferdinandas.

Joint Opposition Convener MP Prasanna Ranatunga said in a statement that swift action should be taken against ministers of this caliber who violate Good Governance policies publicly, after they came to power.

The statement further said that it is surprising to note why representatives of civil organizations who clamoured over alleged threats to the freedom of press during Rajapaksa regime are now tight-lipped.

A discussion with regard to dumping garbage in Bopitiya, Wattala was held at minister Amaratunga’s party office in Kandana yesterday morning.

At the conclusion of the meeting , the minister was approached by HIRU provincial reporter Benet Ferdinandas , and questioned with regard to the garbage issue.

Meanwhile, journalists made enquiries from minister field marshal Sarath Fonseka over Minister John Amaratunga’s conduct, when minister Fonseka participated in a religious event in Mahara yesterday.

Field Marshal Fonseka told journalists that media personnel and people have sovereign right to question politicians on any issue.
