Gemunu demands a bus fare revision of 6% while Anjana demands 10%

Bus associations are of different opinions regarding the fare revision scheduled to take place on the 1st of July.

President of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association, Gemunu Wijerathna stated that bus fares should be revised by 6.5% in accordance with annual bus fare revisions.

Speaking at a press briefing in Colombo today, he further stated that the national policy on bus fares should be prepared again as it is outdated now.

However, Secretary of the All Ceylon Private Bus Owners Association, Anjana Priyanjith stated that bus fare should be revised by 10%.

Meanwhile, President of the Inter Provincial Private Bus Association, Sarath Vijitha Kumara stated that a proposal with 12 facts on the revision of bus fares has been submitted to the National Transport Commission.

 However, Deputy Minister of Transport, Ashok Abeysinghe stated that bus fares can only be revised by 6.5% with effect from the 1st of July.

When our news team inquired this regard from the National Transport Commission, a spokesperson stated that a final decision on the revision of bus fares will be made by next Wednesday.
