Health Service Entomology Assistant Officers’ Union says that there are 8 districts across the country where dengue has been detected at higher density than normal.

The chairman of the union Najith Sumanasena confirmed that the eight districts are Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Ratnapura, Kurunegala, Jaffna, Trincomalee and Batticaloa.

In the first 6 months of this year alone, close to 150 persons died as a result of contracting the disease.

It has been reported that approximately 60,000 persons are suspected of having contracted dengue.

The Chairman said that as a result of the high density, the number of individuals that might contract dengue is likely to increase in the future.
