The postal strike launched against alleged plans to set up hotels in Main Post Office buildings and several other issues is being carried out at this time.

A spokesman from the Central Postal Exchange in Colombo told our news team that over 300 thousand items have been left unattended to today itself.

Meanwhile, our correspondents report that functions at regional post offices were also crippled due to the strike.

Joint convener of the Joint Postal Union Front Chinthaka Bandara said his union expects to extend the strike until June 26th if permanent solutions are not given to their demands.

Meanwhile, holiday leave for all postal workers was cancelled yesterday in an attempt to challenge the workers and prevent disruption and breakdown in essential services.

Post Master General Rohana Abeyrathna described the measures taken to provided services as per norm.

Meanwhile, the minister of Postal and Muslim Religious Affairs M.H. Abdul Haleem said that the ongoing strike is unfair.
