The strike launched by postal employees at mid-night yesterday on several demands,including the suspension of plans to set up hotels in buildings where the main postal offices are housed.

as a result , at the Central Postal Exchange alone, hundreds of thousands of letters remain not being able to be distributed out. .

the United postal trade union front co-convener Chintaka Bandara said that the authorities had not yet provided a solution to their problems.

Similarly the co-convener said that discussions were being held regarding a meeting scheduled for this afternoon to take serious decisions over a statement made by subject minister M. H. A. Haleem.

The following is the statement minister of postal services and Muslim Religious Affairs M. H. A. Haleem made yesterday regarding the strike launched, alleging that the land where the Colombo General Post Office, the Galle Fort, Kandy and Nuwara – Eliya post offices and lands were located were going to be sold off.
