A no-confidence motion against the Northern Province Chief Minister C. V. Wigneshwaran , with the signatures of 21 northern provincial councillors was handed over to the Provincial Governor yesterday.

The motion was in protest of  the Northern Province Chief Minister requiring that  two Northern Province Ministers resign from their posts and two other ministers go on a months leave over alleged fraud and corruption charges.

Northern Provincial Council ,UPFA MP  G Jayatilleke said that 17 Ilangai Tamul Arasu Katchi  councilors and four opposition councillors had signed the motion.

A debate was held at the Northern Provincial Council yesterday regarding the charges levelled against the four Northern Provincial councillors.

The Northern Provincial Chief Minister informed the two ministers who have been charged with corruption to resign from their positions.

In addition , the ministers of fisheries and health were asked to go on leave for a month until inquiries against them are completed.

A three member committee was appointed by Northern Provincial Council Chief Minister C.V. Wigneshwaran last September to probe corruption allegations against the four council ministers.
