Northern Provincial Governor Reginald Corey says that he will inform Chief Minister C.V. Wigneshwaran to prove majority in the Provincial Council.

The statement was made when he was asked about his future action with regard to the no confidence motion handed over to him yesterday by a group of councilors.

A no-confidence motion against the Northern Province Chief Minister C. V. Wigneshwaran , was handed over to the Provincial Governor yesterday with the signatures of 21 northern provincial councillors.

The motion was in protest of the Northern Province Chief Minister requiring that  two Northern Province Ministers resign from their posts and two other ministers, specifically,  the ministers of fisheries and health, take a month’s leave, over alleged fraud and corruption charges.

Northern Provincial Council ,UPFA MP  G Jayatilleke said that the motion was signed by 17 Ilangai Tamul Arasu Katchi  councilors and four opposition councillors.

A debate was held at the Northern Provincial Council yesterday regarding the charges levelled against the four Northern Provincial councillors.

The political party led by leader of the TNA ,  Opposition Leader R. Sampandan has also pledged the parties support of the no confidence motion.

There are 38 members in the Northern Provincial Council and, the ruling TNA claims 30 seats.
