Walking on railway tracks now prohibited

The Railway Department has decided to enforce a law prohibiting pedestrians from walking on railway tracks.

Reports say that the law had actually been in place,  in the Railway Ordinance from 1864, however it has not been implemented.

The Superintendent of Railway Transport Wijaya Samarasinghe, told our news team that the law would be enforced with full effect from this point on,  considering the frequency of fatal train accidents that had taken place in recent times.
