Dengue likely to reach epidemic, Infectious Diseases hospital in Angoda reopened

Admitting patients to Infectious Diseases Hospital in Angoda was restarted this afternoon.

Admittance was temporarily suspended yesterday as the hospital was over crowded with dengue patients.

At the same time, steps have been taken to temporarily affiliate Thalangama, Piliyandala and Wethara provincial hospitals to Infectious Diseases Hospital at Angoda and Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila.

Meanwhile, it is reported that large number of dengue patients has been admitted to Kalubowila, Homagama, Ragama and main hospitals around the country.

At the same time, the Health Ministry stated that subject minister Rajitha Senarathna has requested the President to declare a disaster footing to manage garbage dumping which has been a main cause for spread dengue.

62,857 dengue cases have been reported so far this year and it is the highest number of cases that has ever reported within a year.
