Colombo Municipal Councilor V.K. Anura said that an organized group has been transporting garbage to Colombo with an ulterior motive of polluting the city.

However, municipal laborers complained that they find it difficult to collect garbage as people dump garbage without sorting them.

Meanwhile, General Secretary of Ceylon Workers Congress MP Arumugam Thondaman has resigned from the position of joint chairman of the district development committee.

Party leader MP Muttu Sivalingam told our news team that the resignation has been sent to the President.

MP Sivalingam further said that MP Thondaman has resigned from the post of joint chairman as government employees did not implement the decision taken by MP Thondaman over the dumping of garbage in the Hatton town.

Meanwhile, Nuwara Eliya District Development Committee was heated today over the garbage issue.

The committee was held with the participation of MP K.K. Piyadasa, Minister Palani Digambaram, state Minster V. Radha Krishnan and MP Muttu Sivalingam.

A tense situation erupted as the members of Ceylon Workers Congress expressed their views and, a senior police officer had to intervene to settle the dispute.
