Update - Gnanasara Thero granted bail after surrendering to courts

The General Secretary of Bodu Bala Sena , Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera has been released on bail after he surrendered to Fort Magistrate Court through a lawyer this morning.

The arrest warrant that had been issued on the Thera was revoked by the Magistrate.

Action has been filed against Gnanasara Thera for forcibly entering a media conference in Colombo , organized by the General Secretary of  Jathika Bala Sena , Watareka Vijitha Thera.

It was reports that Gnanasara thera had threatened the organizers uttering sacrilegious statements.

Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayarathna issued an arrest warrant on Gnanasara Thera on June 15th as he failed to appear before Courts in connection with the Case.

This Case will be taken up for hearing again on August 9th.

In addition, Homagama former Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake reported to the Court of Appeal about the thera disturbing Court proceedings while the case on the disappearance of  journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda was being heard.

The attorney general has requested that the Courts issue another arrest warrant on Gnanasara Thera for not appearing before Courts on this occasion as well.

This Case will be taken before the Court of Appeal tomorrow.

Venerable Galagoda Atte Gnanasara thero has appeared before the Colombo Fort Magistrates Court a short while ago.

According to HIRU court correspondent, Gnansara Thero has appeared before the Courts through an attorney.

Court cases had been filed against Gnanasara Thero for forceful entering into a media briefing held by the Chief Secretary of Jathika Bala Sena, Venerable Vatareka Vijitha Thero in Colombo and for looking down upon the holy Quran.

However, Gnanasara Thero was previously issued arrest warrant due to not appearing before the Courts since he did not attend the hearings.

The warrants were issued by Colombo Fort Magistrate, Lanka Jayarathne.
