The Government Medical Officers Association decided to call off the continuous strike following a discussion held this evening with President Maithreepala Sirisena.

Following the discussion it was noted they arrived at 4 agreements with regard to the SAITM issue.

Issuing a statement the GMOA noted they came to an agreement on legal proceedings on the enrollment of students to SAITM, and halting the awarding of degrees to be accelerated and that the independence of the Sri Lanka medical council president or the council will not be affected.

Further it was agreed upon to make the government stance on SAITM clear through the Attorney General to the Supreme court, and to implement a solution which wouldn’t affect the public through a novel mechanism.
