Muslim devotees around the world celebrate the Ramazan Festival today, after ending a month long fast during the Islamic month of Ramazan, which began on May 27.

Sending a wish for the Ramazan Festival, President Maithripala Sirisena voices that mutual respect, equality, sacrifice and helping the poor, practiced by Muslims with devotion during Ramazan showed emancipation of humans depended on the feeling of others' welfare.

Moreover, the Premier Ranil Wickramasinghe in his message for Ramazan has mentioned that the physical and inner tranquility, restraint and the discipline that were developed in Muslims during the month of Ramazan through fasting would help build a better society.

The fasting in the holy month of Ramazan is one of the five major obligations of Islam.

The Premier, in his message further states that Muslims help build fraternity, equality and coexistence throughout this month by being sensitive to the sufferings and feelings of their brethren.

Virtues developed by Muslims during the holy month of Ramazan help them to live a virtuous life throughout their life.
