Cabinet subcommittee scheduled to inspect Uma – oya project

The Cabinet Subcommittee appointed to look into the disputed situation that erupted in realtion to the Uma Oya Multipurpose Development project is scheduled to partiscipate in an inspection tour next Monday.

Committee member minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that the neighborhood of the already completed project and the consequent damages that have affected the residents will be ascertained in detail.

A Large number of people affected by the Uma Oya project gathered in Bandarawela yesterday and staged a protest demanding the suspension of the project and compensation for the damages to property and livelihood.

Contrary to this situation, former president Mahinda Rajapaksa expressed his views in connection to the Uma Oya project following a ceremony held at Sri Sambuddhaloka temple in Colombo Fort yesterday.

He stated that troubles started after the construction of the Uma Oya project was suspended after this government came to power.

A three member Cabinet subcommittee comprising of Ministers Mahinda Amaraweera, Patali Champika Ranawaka and Vijayamuni Soyza was appointed when the Cabinet met last Tuesday. 

Committee member minister Mahinda Amaraweera further said that civil organizations appearing on behalf of the people affected as well as other relevant factions will have a special discussion with the President tomorrow.
