The postal employees’ strike launched three days ago was temporarily suspended at 6 this morning.

The suspension came following last nights discussion with postal department authorities including the post master general.

The united postal trade union front launched the strike on Monday over several issues including a demand to terminate plans to use buildings that have historically significant bnuildings that are currently used as post offices for a tourist hotel project.

Expressing his views to our news team, after the discussion held yesterday the united postal trade union front co-convener H. A. Kariyawasam said   that if the authorities did not respond to their demands as promised, the union would relaunch the strike .

Over the last three days, a consequence of the strike has left more than one million letters back logged at the central postal exchange and other post offices.

convener of the union Chintaka Bandara said that action would be taken to have the letters delivered as soon as possible.
