University of Moratuwa was closed today for two weeks due to risks of spreading dengue.

It is reported that around 80 students have contracted dengue while one female student has died of the disease.

Furthermore, university students staged a protest this morning urging immediate solutions to the situation.

Meanwhile, the Government Medical Officers Association accuses that the Ministry of Health is refraining from publishing statistics pertaining to dengue cases, officially.

In a communiqué, the GMOA states that the attempt is to conceal the exact number of deaths.

The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health noted that 71,298 dengue patients have been reported thus far this year.

42.76% of the total number of cases have been reported from the Western province.

11,342 cases were reported during the month of June while 15,134 cases were reported during the month of May.
