A special discussion on the existing issues including the SAITM dispute was held at the Asgiri temple this afternoon.

Bhikkhus of several Nikayas and other factions participated in the meeting.

Asgiri Chief Prelate Most Venerable Warakagoda Gnanarathana Thera, Anu Nayake Venerable Wendaruwe Upali Thera and Venerable Anamaduwe Dhammadassi Thera represented the Asgiri Chapter.

Anu Nayake Venerable Niyangoda Vijithasiri Thera and Venerable Dimbulkumbure Wimaladamma Thera represented the Malwathu Chapter.

In addition, Chief Prelate of Ramanya Nikaya Most Venerable Napane Pemasiri Thera, Chief Prelate of Amarapura Nikaya Most Venerable Kotugoda Dammawasa Thera and Chancellor of Kelaniya University Venerable Welamitiyawe Kusaladamma Thera participated in the meeting.

However, Venerable Omare Kassapa Thera has represented the Rohana faction.

Meanwhile, several representatives from the Hindu convention also participated in the discussion.

Subsequently, Registrar of the Asgiri Chapter Dr. Medagama Dhammananda Thera explained the decisions taken during the meeting to our news team in this manner.

The Thera said that the meeting decided the need of an immediate solution to SAITM issue and there is no need of a new constitution.

A group of former security forces officers including former army commander General Daya Rathnayake paid a visit to the Malwathu and Asgiri Chief Prelates.

The security commanders met the chief prelates to educate them about the International Convention for the protection of all persons.
