Change in School Uniforms to help defend against killer dengue

The Education Ministry has decided to change the school uniform, as dengue is fast spreading among school children.

Subject minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam stated at a ceremony held in Colombo yesterday that the relevant Circular will be issued in the next few days.

The minister said that boys’ short will be replaced with long trousers while girls are permitted to wear a moderate dress that covers entire body.

According to Health Ministry statistics, 77 thousand 222 dengue cases have been reported within the last 7 months.

The highest number of cases , 43.4%, were reported from the Western Province.

The ministry of Health also said that 220 patients have died of dengue so far this year.
