The Petroleum Trade Unions’ Collective says that because they have not been granted the opportunity to meet with President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, all trade unions will meet today and decide on a date to launch a strike.

Convenor for the Collective D. J. Raajakarunaa confirmed that the strike would be launched to voice opposition to three main issues.

The first being their objections to the handing over of oil tanks in Trincomalee to India.

Secondly the acquisition of the Hambantota port oil tanks by the Petroleum Corporation and thirdly desiring that renovations of the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery take place.

The convener went on to say that as they had not been granted the opportunity to hold discussions with the president and prime minister, all trade unions would meet today to determine the plan of action .
