The Supreme Court permitted former minister Piyasena Gamage to mediate in the Petition filed with regard to MP Geetha Kumarasinghe’s parliamentary position today.

Our court correspondent stated that the 3 member panel of Supreme Court Judges comprised of Chief Justice Priyasad Depp, Justice Eva Wanasundara and Justice Upali Abeyrathna ordered to name Gamage as the 4th respondent of the Petition.

The court of Appeal recently decided that Geetha Kumarasinghe is not qualified to hold a MP post.

Later MP Kumarasinghe challenged the Appeal Court verdict before the Supreme Court and, former minister Piyasena Gamage appealed to mediate in the petition.

Piyasena Gamage is next in preferential vote list to enter parliament in the event Geetha Kumarasinghe is unseated.

However, Geetha Kumarasinghe’s lawyers objected making Piyasena Gamage a mediator in the petition.

The Petition was fixed to be taken for hearing again on September 15th.
