A special executive committee meeting of the GMOA will be held today to make final decision regarding the postponed strike.

However minister of  Higher Education and Highways Lakshman Kiriella requested that doctors refrain from striking considering that the country is being impacted by a Dengue epidemic and other matters.

Although the GMOA had decided, on 4th of July , to launch an uninterrupted strike over the SAITM problem, it was postponed by a week, at the request of  His Eminence the Archbishop.

However the GMOA has already stated that it would resort to a strike if a different person was appointed to the Sri Lanka Medical Council.

GMOA media spokesman Dr. Samantha Ananda said that if a final decision could not be reached today, a meeting would be held again next Thursday and a final decision taken.

Meanwhile participating at a function held in Kandy yesterday, Minister Kiriella requested that the doctors not to resort to a strike.
