48 students from Walagedera Maha Vidyalaya in Mathugama have been hospitalized having shown symptoms of experiencing an allergic reaction to an unknown substance.

School principal Wimal Wickramathantri told our news team that 48 students from Year 6 and year 8, started itching uncontrollably this morning.

Doctor in charge of Darga Terminal hospital Gayan Wijesinghe said 20 students were experiencing difficulty with breathing and have been admitted for treatment.

The others were given OPD treatment.

Last Friday , 40 students of the same school were hospitalized, for the same reason.

Meanwhile, the Public Health Inspector in the area, together with a group of Medical Health Officers are conducting an investigation into the incident.
