At yesterdays cabinet meeting ,the cabinet was in complete agreement with regards to  closing down the Corruption Eradication Committee Secretariat

a senior Government Minister said that it had been decided at the cabinet meeting that all the files pertaining to the corrupt incidents which were being investigated under the  Corruption Eradication Committee Office, be handed over to the Commission that currently probes such corruptions.

Reports say that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe presented to the cabinet a succinct report regarding the activities of the Corruption Eradication Committee Office carried out during past period.

The Secretariat was set up in accordance with a paper presented to the cabinet on 2nd July, 2015.

Although it had been set up for one year, its period was extended for another six months, to June 30 2016, through a cabinet paper submitted on last  22nd November.

At the cabinet meeting held last week the President expressed his severe displeasure regarding the secretariat’s activities.

However it had not been decided at the cabinet meeting held on that day  whether  the corruption eradication secretariat should be closed down or not.
