Dates scheduled for trial over the elephant case against Uduwe Thero

The Colombo High Court ordered today to schedule  the Case against Uduwe Dhammaloka Thera for October 24th.

 the Thera is accused of illegally rearing a wild elephant calf.

High Court Judge Sampath Wijerathna ordered to call the Case again on July 20th to submit the list of witnesses.

Wildlife officials recovered an elephant calf being kept illegally at the Allen Mathiniyaramaya in Kirulopne on January 28 last year.

Dhammaloka Thera who was arrested on March 9th was released later on.

Meanwhile, the four army personnel, including a brigadier were arrested in connection to a shooting that took place during a protest in Rathupaswala , were further remanded until July 26th.

When the case was taken before Gampaha magistrate D.A. Ruwan Pathirana, the CID informed the Court that four witnesses have testified before the Military Court in connection with the same incident.

The CID also stated that it has not received the Government Analyst’s report with regard to the 40 T-56 weapons.

the Magistrate requested that the CID send a reminder about this matter to the Government’s Analyst.
