Central Bank Senior Assistant Director Saman Kumara testified before the Bonds Commission yesterday that he was prepared to reveal in writing evidence of all fraudulent and corrupt offences that had occurred in bonds dealings.

The senior assistant director said that a conspiracy was being launched to involve him in frauds, that a number of powerful businessmen had jointly committed.

Although the senior central bank officer, who had been suspended from service, attempted to make a statement, he was not given the opportunity.

Both the Supreme Court Judges as well as Senior Additional Solicitor General, President’s Counsel Dappula Livera gave the witness an ultimatum as to whether he wanted to go home or get sent to prison.

Subsequently the witness revealed before the commission all particulars regarding assets in his wife’s and relatives’ names acquired with his intervention.

He revealed that he owned 5 vehicles and  the three companies including a gem exporting firm, while being a recipient of a government servant’s salary .

He went on to revel that  two bowsers had been rented out  to the Petroleum Corporation.

In addition details about ownership of many other assets including a fuel filling station in Hatton town were also revealed before the commission.

The bank officer went on to share that While there are fixed deposits exceeding Rs. 12 million in the witness’s wife’s name, the witness also makes investments in the share market through three broker institutions.

The witness gained ownership to all these assets after the period he served attached to the Sri Lanka Central Bank Employees’ Provident Fund.

The witness’s job role at the Central Bank was to decide on who the bonds should be purchased from and to whom the bonds should be sold.
