A special pooja for the Buddha and other deities was held at the ancient Cave Temple in Dambulla early this morning.

Our correspondent stated that residents of 18 foster villages of the Dambulla ancient temple participated in this pooja conducted by the caretaker monk of the Vishnu Devalaya Ambagaswewa Rahula Thera.

Dambulla Cave Temple has become the center of controversy these days after the Archaeological Consultation Board decided to temporarily close the temple for conservation.

Meanwhile, Pivituru Hela Urumaya charges that the government is planning to employ foreign apprentices to carry out the conservation of paintings at Dambulla Cave temple.

However, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam stated in a communiqué that certain factions are trying to misinterpret the Dambulla temple incident.

The minister points out that the Buddha Sasana Ministry has been auditing the collection of till-boxes and returning such money to same temple authorities since in the past.

The Minister says that certain factions are trying to build a wrong perception in the society that the government is attempting to take over the collection of temple till boxes.
