The ministerial sub-committee appointed for looking into the  the Umaa Oya Multi-function Project has instructed the authorities to complete granting compensation to people negatively impacted, by the project before September 15th .

Reports say that the sub-committee has also instructed authorities to take steps to finish the pertinent assessment activities before August 01.   

Currently the Government has released Rs. 300 million to the District Secretariat  for granting compensation.

The President had previously appointed a sub-committee consisting of three ministers.

The sub-committee comprised of ministers Mahinda Amaraweera, Patali Champika Ranawaka and Wijith Vijeyamuni Soysaa.

During a meeting yesterday, it was that a number of decisions, on behalf of the people affected by the project, had been taken.

It was decided during the meeting that in order to resolve the issue with a lack of sufficient drinking water 200,00 litres of water would be transported by train from the Ohiya Railway Station  to Diyathalaawa .

The ministerial sub-committee has also instructed that another 400,000 litres of water be obtained from the Uma Oya water leakage, and that it be distributed to the people via bowsers.
