It has been reported that 700 thousand families from the farming community have been affected by the existing drought conditions in 13 districts.

The Disaster management centre stated that in addition, more than 200 thousand families have been affected indirectly due to the drought.

Meanwhile, the MET Department stated that it has been predicted that these drought stricken areas would not experience adequate rainfall until the first week of October.

The Northern, North Central, Eastern and North Western provinces have been severely impacted by the drought.

The Met Department stated that it is believed that the South Western and Southern Provinces will not receive sufficient rainfall in the next two months.
