Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe chaired a special meeting of the party working committee at the UNP Headquarters, Sirikotha, today.

UNP sources stated that the forthcoming local government election and 40th anniversary of the UNP victory in 1977 were discussed at the meeting.

Party organizational activities and paying immediate compensation for political victims were also discussed during the meeting.

Party General Secretary Minister Kabeer Hashim further explained about the matters discussed in the meeting in this manner.

Meanwhile, Party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has stated that criticizing the party and its members in public by Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake cannot be condoned.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe has stated that neither he nor his party would protect the corrupt or the Rajapaksas at any time.

He therefore has asked deputy minister Ramanayake to resign from his post if he wants to further criticize the actions of the party.

Meanwhile, deputy ministers Ranjan Ramanayake and Ajith P Perera expressed contradictory views about holding local government elections.
