Two out of six students who went on a boat ride unbeknownst to their teachers die

Two students of a school in Kurunegala who had come on a field visit to observe Mavil Aru anicut in Serunuwara, died after their boat capsized.

Police stated that four other students who were in the boat were rescued.

Around 80 students had arrived on a field visit to observe Mavil Aru anicut with several teachers.

The six students who were involved in the accident had gone in the boat without informing the teachers.   

Police stated that two of the six students were already dead by the time they were admitted to hospital.

The deceased students were aged 11 and 18.
