Stay orders for suspects in the 3.2 billion rupee Cocaine incident

The court yesterday permitted detain and question the seven suspects arrested in connection with the incident involving smuggling of Rs.3.2 billion worth stock of cocaine .

While the suspects were produced at the Mt. Lavinia Magistrate court last afternoon, the magistrate ordered that they be further questioned until  26th of july.

Police had arrested the driver of the container in which the stock had been discovered as well as six labourers from the Economic Centre.  

218.6  kilograms of cocaine that had been concealed in a container of sugar imported by a private company for Sathosa, was seized last afternoon.

The Sugar Importers Association stated that the container, in which the stock of Cocaine was retreived, had been abandoned at Colombo Port for 9 months.

Media Secretary of the organization Hemaka Fernando said there are another 75 to 80 containers of sugar imported from Brazil in Colombo Port.

Sugar Importers announced that they would stop importing sugar from Brazil since last October.
