The National Education Commission has recommended to the government that the age limit to admit students into year one should be reduced by one year.

Commission Secretary Nilakshi Gunesekera told our news team that the current age limit to admit students to Year One would be reduced from 5 to children aged  4 years old.

In addition, the Commission has drawn attention to reduce school grades by one year and re-set it from grade 6 to 8.

Commission Secretary Gunesekera further said that other schools which maintain grades from Year 9 to Year 12 will be renamed as Secondary Schools under the new reforms.
