Two ministers accuse police for their attempt to abduct convener of Medical faculty student activists

Finance and Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera said that the attempt to abduct the convener of the Medical Faculty Student Activists Committee Ryan Jayalath, is a conspiracy to disgrace the government.

Addressing a media briefing held at the Finance Ministry today, minister Samaraweera said the IGP will take disciplinary action against the officers involved in the conspiracy.

A group of persons arrived in a white van attempted to abduct Ryan Jayalath yesterday while he was leaving GMOA headquarters after participating in a meeting.

Meanwhile, MP Johnston Fernando, who was present at the Colombo Chief Magistrate Court, stated that the government has started acts of suppression after it failed to fulfil the given pledges.

At the same time, UNP General Secretary minister Kabeer Hashim said that it cannot be approved that the police are acting out of the legal framework.

He was speaking to journalists after participating in a public rally in Kegalle.

Also, the IUSF submitted a petition to Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission in connection with the attempt to abduct convener of the Medical Faculty Student Activists’ Committee Ryan Jayalath and the attack unleashed on university students at Kekirawa.

The students were distributing leaflets against SAITM at the time of the assault.

In addition, Anti SAITM janapavura also filed a petition with the Police commission against the police attempt to abduct Jayalath.

Meanwhile, GMOA also submitted a petition to UN Human Rights Council citing that the government is resorting to suppress struggles by university students.

Further, a protest rally organized by Sri Jayewardenepura University Medical Faculty Association against taking over of the Neville Fernando Private hospital is currently being held at the Maharagama town.
