The Medical Faculty Students' Action Committee commenced a continuous Sathyagraha against the Malabe private university at the Lipton roundabout today.

Starting off from the University of Colombo the group arrived at the Lipton roundabout and commenced the Sathyagraha by building makeshift shelters.

However, the Fort magistrate had issued a court order preventing the Sathyagraha which was rejected by the members of the Medical Faculty Students' Action Committee.

Later Police officers displayed the injunction on a notice board near the makeshift shelters where the Sathyagraha is being held.

Meanwhile, the representatives of government medical faculty lecturers association showed their support to the ongoing Sathyagraha by arriving at the Lipton roundabout this evening.

Further, Minister of Ministry of Law & Order and Southern Development Sagala Rathnayake has ordered an immediate report on the arrest of Medical Faculty Students' Action Committee Convener Ryan Jayalath from the IGP.

The minister further ordered an investigation into the mechanisms followed by the police with regard to the matter.

Minister Sagala Ratnayake added that a special announcement would be made with regard to the incident in parliament next week.
