The 13 university students who were arrested during the Sathyagraha at the Colombo- Lipton roundabout, have been released on bail, after being produced before the Hulsdorf magistrates court.

The magistrate also ordered that the students reappear before courts on the 28th of July.

A continuous Sathyagraha was launched by the Medical Faculty Students' Action Committee and the interuniversity students federation against SATIM at the Lipton roundabout last Saturday.

the Sathyagraha was launched in spite of the injunction order by the Colombo magistrates court prohibiting the protest from taking place at the respective location.

students were dispersed as police fired water cannons , breaking down the make shift shelters that had been built around the Lipton roundabout.

The education secretary of the frontline socialist party, Pubudu Jayagoda expressed these views last evening regarding police resrting to water cannon attacks to disperse the protesters.

Around 7:30 on Sunday evening , Rajarata university students protested against the earlier incident where police fired water cannons at university students at Lipton roundabout.

The students carried banners with slogans and burning tyres as they marched from the university premises to Mihintale town.

As a consequence one lane of A9, the Kandy- Jaffna main road and the A12 , Putlam- Trincomalee main road experienced heavy congestion .

the protest continued for approximately one hour.

Meanwhile, the Government Medical Officers Association media spokesperson Dr. Samantha Ananda says that tomorrows token strike based on several demands, will be launched at 8 am, in hospitals island wide.

The strike is to be launched against the revelation of  information with regard to the attempted abduction of Ryan Jayalath ,Medical Faculty Students' Action Committee Convener , legal action to be sought against those responsible, and the release of all university students who are currently incarcerated.

He added that the token strike would be launched tomorrow if solutions are not provided by the government within the course of today.
