The Distribution of fuel has been negatively impacted,  due to the ongoing strike which was launched at midnight, protesting against three issues including leasing out Hambantota Harbor to a Chinese company.

Long queues at petrol stations throughout the island have been reported.

Some stations have closed as they sold out of fuel.

Meanwhile, convener of the petroleum trade union collective, D.J. Rajakaruna says the strike they launched at midnight is continuing successfully.

He further said that distribution of fuel for aircrafts have also been suspended.

The IOC Company has confirmed that they have been distributing fuel as per norm.

Company director Shyam Bora said that more stock is to be brought from the Trincomalee terminal to assist with normalizing distribution in Colombo.

In the meantime, Deputy Ports Minister Nishantha Muthu-hetti-gama said that certain amendments have been made to the agreement with China.

He also said that the relevant agreement will be signed in the near future.
