Sri Lanka's first ever leg transplant surgery has been successfully conducted in Anuradhapura Hospital.

The surgery has been done on the 24th and has made history in organ transplantation field.

It has been reported that four Consultants including Vascular and Transplant Surgeon, Doctor Joel Arudchelvam of Anuradhapura General Hospital and four other surgeons have conducted this surgery.

The leg transplantation has been done to a 32 year old individual whose left leg was removed from thighs due to being critically damaged following an accident one year ago.

According to the Vascular and Transplant Surgeon, Consultant Joel Arudchelvam of Anuradhapura General Hospital, the left leg of a 52 year old patient whose brain has been confirmed to have died due to bleeding out following a chronic disease, has been utilized in order to conduct the leg transplantation of the 32 year old patient.
