Minister Ravi Karunanayake did not appear before the Presidential Commission for the second day today to be testified with regard to controversial Central Bank bond issue.

However, minister Karunanayake told journalists following an event held at his ministry this morning that he is ready to be testified before the Commission.

Meanwhile, lawyer appeared for the Minister Riyancy Arsakularathna told the Bond Commission today that his client was unable to appear before the Commission as he had been called for the Cabinet meeting today.

He also said that his client is scheduled to attend parliament tomorrow and day after and will leave the country on an overseas tour on Monday.

He further said that his client, minister Karunanayake will appear before the Commission next Wednesday.

Chairman of the Commission, Supreme court Judge, and K.T. Chithrasiri said that it was decided to summon Minister Karunanayake before the Commission as his name was mentioned by a witness during testifying.

Commission member, Supreme Court Judge Prasanna Jayawardana said the Commission respects the minister’s official duty but he should assist the Commission as it has a short spell.

Commission Chairman Justice K.T. Chitrasiri further said that two days of the Commission was wasted as the minister did not turn out and later ordered him to appear before the Commission next Wednesday.

The justice said that the minister’s action will be taken into consideration in preparing the final report unless he respects the Commission orders.

In addition, the state counsels told the Commission that Arjun Aloysius has handed over to CID his mobile phones he used during only the last 6 months.

They quoted Arjuna Aloysius as saying that his previous phone was dropped to a swimming pool and data on it were destroyed.

At this moment, state counsels requested the Commission to order former Central Bank governor Arjuna Mahendran to hand over the CID, all the mobile digital devices he used during 2015 and 2016.

Despite objections by former Central Bank Governor’s lawyers for making such a request in public, the Commission ordered the former Central Bank Governor to handover all such productions to CID.
