Assistant director of the disaster management canter Pradeep Kodipplil said that 15 districts in the island have been hit by drought condition thereby affecting approximately 600,000 persons.

Meanwhile a spokesman for the ministry of power and renewable energy, suluxshana jayawardena states that  it is becoming difficult to supply power around the clock as water levels at hydro power reservoirs continue to recede drastically.
