Two police officers were injured and admitted to hospital when a group on motorcycles attacked the officers using sharp objects.

Police media spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara noted that the officers were assaulted when they were on duty near the Kopaai- Nandaawil kovil this afternoon.

The two injured police officers were police constables attached to the Kopai police.

The police media spokesperson added that the injured are currently receiving treatment at the Jaffna hospital.

The injured constables are residents of Anuradhapura and Mannar.

The Kopai police have launched a special police investigation into the incident, and the assailants are yet to be identified.
