Four police squads have been deployed to investigate into the attack on two police officers in Kopai.

A group of motorcyclists with sharp weapons launched the attack on the officers close to the Amman Temple in Nandavil , Kopai on Sunday afternoon whist they were on official duty.

Police said that the investigation will be overseen by the Senior DIG in Jaffna.

The two police constables are attached to Kopai police.

The police media spokesman said that the police officers, who are residents of Anuradhapura and Mannar, are currently receiving treatment at the Jaffna hospital.

The group that launched the attack have not yet been identified.
